Running for the BOD…Real Time Day 1.5
Here’s what I love about traveling west—I wake up at the “Crack of Dawn” and exercise(yippee for Pacific Time!) We successfully navigated a 10 hour travel day and experienced minimal airport drama, which felt like a big win. After the early morning workout we went for a walk in search of a cappuccino and met a lovely St. Bernard and saw a very cool shipping container apartment building. After discussing with our barista(http://www.songbirdcoffeehouse.com 10 out of 10) we learned that they are vacation rentals and none of the locals can afford to stay in them. It’s the same thing we struggle with in our mountain community—the ubiquitous struggle as it turns out. But what a cool building.
Jared has been busy learning how to use a travel steamer as my Emotional Support Person/Travel Dobby and we realized that normally we do not 1) check luggage or 2) travel anywhere together that packing does not exclusively include hiking and outdoor clothes that do not wrinkle. Boundary breaking times. He is a superstar and I am grateful I picked up on that when we were 16 and pimply, confused adolescents.
Off to the races! Today there are a series of activities including a chance to stand at the podium and feel the lights for our big speech and question and answer session (which comes on Tuesday) and a little later a “meet the candidate” event where everyone running for an office will get to know our voting delegates from around the country and they will get to know us. We can then quench our thirsty, overworked throats at the bar with a lot of amazing people (when my 4:30 am wake up will no longer feel great!)
One of our other great discoveries is that in Arizona—you can buy Woodford Reserve at the grocery store(only $24.99 for a 750 ml bottle…if you get two) on a Sunday! Not that we did that. No sirree.
Off to the races…more later!
