Running for the BOD…Real Time

When AAFP changed the process for people to be considered for the board of directors, it came at a perfect time in my life and I wanted to support the new process— it was past time for change! Thus launched what has been a fairly riotous nine months of interviews, training, learning, writing, listening and learning. (And writers cramp from hand writing 240+ cards to the people who will be voting and deciding my future! ) And today is the day in the last leg of this journey! We are in the airport now waiting for our flight to board and I decided I would channel my (reasonable) excitement(code for anxiety) into regular updates for my family and friends who want to follow along!

This is probably the hardest part of the process—-there are well over 100,000 amazing family docs out there, so why me? Why not someone else? That’s up to the Congress of Delegates to decide as they put together, through thoughtful deliberation, the next class for the board, who in only three years will be in the running for president. My personal goal for the next few days is to show up authentically as me—-the real Shannon Dowler—and be open to the universe putting me in the right place!
